Liverpool are close to securing a deal to sign Belgium goalkeeper Simon Mignolet from Sunderland.

Although the Anfield club have offered £8m and Sunderland's asking price is £10m, an agreement is expected to be reached in the coming days.

The 24-year-old has played 101 games since joining from Belgian club St Truiden for £2m in June 2010.

Liverpool's current first-choice keeper Pepe Reina, 30, has been linked with a move to Spanish champions Barcelona.

The Reds have already agreed to sign Manchester City defender Kolo Toure on a free transfer and Celta Vigo striker Iago Aspas for £7m.

Manager Brendan Rodgers is also tracking highly rated Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago Ilori and Sevilla midfielder Luis Alberto, both 20 - while the club are reportedly close to signing 24-year-old Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan  from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Uncertainty still surrounds the future of striker Luis Suarez but Liverpool have not received any direct indications, either from Suarez or his agent, that the player wants to leave.

Mignolet kept 11 clean sheets in 40 appearances last season.
