Over 65,000 Arsenal fans were fooled into following a fake Twitter account for Dennis Bergkamp with even the club's official account falling for the prank.
The account @DBergkamp1969 was set up over the weekend and was followed by thousands who believed the former Holland and Gunners legend had finally joined the social-networking site.
Former Holland and Manchester United goal keeper Edwin van der Sar and the official Ajax Twitter feed where Bergkamp is working as a coach both confirmed the account to be genuine.

And Arsenal themselves appeared to give their own verification, as they tweeted: '@DBergkamp1969 describes this as his "finest moment" for @Arsenal' to promote an online feature on the club's website.
However, the account has now been widely discredited with another former Gunners ace outing the fraud.
'Dennis Bergkamp account is completely fake guys. Have a good day,' tweeted Cesc Fabregas to his millions of followers.
