The Rum Kitchen; Notting Hill
Following its soft opening before Christmas, The Rum Kitchen in Notting Hill is now open. A Caribbean restaurant, its menu focuses on classic dishes such as Ackee and salt fish bruschetta, as well as jerk chicken and curried goat. Music will be a prominent feature at the venue too it has a music director, DJ Fast from The Fun Lovin' Criminals and Reggae collective 'Reggae Roast'. Although the restaurant hasn't provided information on what a music director actually does, visitors are told to expect a soundtrack that veers from reggae to Latin to calypso to Afro-funk when they're there. For those not detoxing this January, over 100 varieties of rum are stocked.
Asia de Cuba brunch menu launch; Leicester Square
Asia de Cuba is launching its new dim sum brunch this month. Taking place on Sundays from January 20, the event focuses on dim sum and cocktails and diners will eat to a live musical accompaniment from a Cuban jazz trio and DJ. Dishes on offer will include steamed sea bass dumplings and passion fruit ponzo and there will be a complementary range of Chino-Latino-inspired cocktails too. Dim sum for two will cost £35 per person, including one cocktail.
London detox and healthy-eating menus available in January
Personal tainer Matt Roberts has devised two detox menus for Sumosan and Cassis restaurants. Sumonsan will sell detox bento boxes this month, coming in at under 400 calories. At Cassis, special two-course menus which come in at a combined maximum of 650 calories are available for the month.
At sketch, chef Pierre Gaganaire has developed a special detox breakfast menu. Launching this month, it includes healthy takes on traditional breakfast dishes as well as a selection of cleansing juices.
At Min Jiang in Kensington, a detox sharing menu will be available during weekday lunch times for the month of January. Costing £29.50 per person, it includes a steamed dim sum platter, steamed fish and rice, and stir-fried vegetables.
ETM Group restaurants The Botanist and Chiswell Street Dining Rooms are offering a supposedly virtuous cocktail list to assuage drinker guilt this month. Devised by the company's chief mixologist Paulo Brammer, the range of gin and vodka cocktails is enhanced with various health foods think goji berries, spirulina powder and white tea syrup and each drink is priced at £8.50. They're available from January 7 to February 10.
