Barcelona are expected to move to sign Liverpool's Pepe Reina in the summer after Victor Valdes announced last week he will not be renewing his contract.

Valdes stunned Barca by refusing to discuss an extension to his contract, which runs out in 2014, and though he will play until the end of the season, Barca want to recruit a new goalkeeper in June.

Wanted: Pepe Reina could return to Barcelona

Barca believe Liverpool would consider a bid for Spain international Reina, with manager Brendan Rodgers aware that he will have to sell key players to raise money to rebuild the current side.

Reina, 30, who missed yesterday's game against Norwich after having surgery to repair the broken nose he sustained against Manchester United last weekend, is considered the outstanding candidate by Barca because he was raised through the club's youth system, alongside Valdes.

Reina eventually ended up at Real Villarreal before he was signed by Rafa Benitez for Liverpool.

Reina, who is also struggling with a thigh injury which could force him to miss next Sunday's FA Cup tie against Oldham, was born in Madrid but once played for Catalonia in a representative game for the region, which the Catalans claim is an international match.

FINALLY Barcelona investing in a new Goalkeeper, Valdes is pure rotten! BUT don't pick Reina keep him in the Premier League.

Ha ha ha ha ha funniest thing I've read in ages! What a crock! Reinas going nowhere!!

This can't be true. last week , DM said that De Gea was the main target.

Fortunately for Liverpool if this story is true there isn't a shortage of quality keepers around Europe and I wouldn't be surprised if Rodgers allowed him to leave and brought in someone like butland.

Barcelona scouting De Gea - it'll be the headline tomorrow.

More DM BS

Awaiting a similar article about them going for De Gea, too.

Don't see why Barcelona would show interest in a out of form keeper. It's not like them to sign out of form players. Reina is struggling to get to his world class performances. And to be honest I would like him to stay at Liverpool to rediscover his form over the coming months. He is an outstanding keeper when in form.

LOL

Given Reina is now into his 30s and of course his collapse in form and reputation, it's probably a good deal. It's sad when you remember how good he used to be. Now he's a liability.
