London Underground overtaken by Lynx spacemen - The Sun

FORGET about a giant leap for mankind - these astronauts took the easy route by hopping on the Tube to visit London's finest landmarks.

The suited and booted army was spotted travelling down an escalator on the London Underground before stopping at Westminster Abbey for a photo opportunity with a policeman.

Next up was Buckingham Palace, but they would have been disappointed if they expected the Queen to notice them as HRH isn't in residence at the moment.

They continued their assault on the capital with an invasion of a London park.

One astronaut took the opportunity to take his dog for a walk in the crisp winter air.

The out-of-this-world stunt was organised by Lynx to launch The Lynx Space Academy, sending one lucky person into space.

The global competition will see 22 lucky people, including one Brit, launched into orbit.

Lifting off next year, they'll be travelling on the shuttle Lynx SXC with space tourism company SpaceX.

In October 2012 the company successfully completed the first commercial launch of an unmanned spacecraft to the International Space Station.

An exact replica of the Lynx shuttle, pictured, will be on display for the first time in the UK at Westfield White City on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 January.

It is the width of three double decker buses and weighs in at a massive 1.5 tonnes.

To win one of the places on board, applicants must create a profile on LynxApollo.com, telling the world why they deserve to go to space.

The public will then get to vote for the top 200 UK applicants who will all advance to the National Challenge weekend to complete a series of mental and physical challenges.

From there the top four recruits will go through to the Global Space Camp where they will compete against the winners from over 75 countries in three different training sessions.

Then a panel of space experts will select those worthy of a trip to space.

The competition was launched by legendary astronaut and pilot of the historic Apollo 11 spacecraft Buzz Aldrin.

He said: "Space travel for everyone is the next frontier in the human experience.

"I'm thrilled that Lynx is giving the young people of today such an extraordinary opportunity to experience some of what I've encountered in space."
