Arsene Wenger looks set to complete the £7.5m signing of Newcastle United striker Demba Ba early next month. The Arsenal manager is reportedly closing in on the Senegal international signing having given up his pursuit of Schalke forward Klaas-Jan Huntlelaar.

The Gunners boss will meet the 27 year old's much publicized release clause and offer the Magpies striker a deal said to be in the region of £100k a week. Arsenal are set to beat off interest from other prospective suitors and have been greatly aided in their pursuit of the French born forward due to his keenness to play under revered boss Wenger.

French source Canal+ had seemingly let the 'cat out of the bag' earlier this week about a likely move to the Emirates Stadium for the Newcastle United marksman but Alan Pardew has attempted to calm talk of such a switch with key matches against Man United & Arsenal to deal with before the transfer window re-opens on January 1st.

However a deal is seemingly done but is being kept under wraps until a move has been formally agreed by both clubs.

Arsene Wenger has been promised a significant level of transfer funding to help the club secure at the very least, a top four finish this term. That is an ambition that has been aided in recent weeks by something of a return to form and though the Arsenal boss does have funds necessary to launch big money moves he is still said to prefer to avoid wasteful needless levels of spending, not least as he is not known for bringing in players in the January transfer window.

Therefore a move to bring in a player of Ba's proven Premier League quality for a bargain price is proving too good an opportunity to pass up. Interest in the former West Ham man is also helped by the fact that the powerful forward is eligible for Champions League action this season, this too is said to be a big reason as to why the Newcastle United man is keen on a move to the North London club, having never plied his trade in Europe's premier cup competition.

Demba Ba hasn't let unsettling talk of his St James' Park future affect his form this season. Though Pardew's side are struggling to retain the form that led to a top five finish last term the in-form striker has scored 11 goals from 17 Premier League starts. In his first season in the North-East he managed to net 16 despite being used in a supporting role for half of the campaign following the arrival of compatriot Papiss Cisse.

Arsene Wenger is keen to beef up his attacking options as he has been overly reliant on Olivier Giroud as the spearhead of his Arsenal attack. Though Theo Walcott has proven effective in his preferred striking role over the past couple of fixtures the Emirates Stadium boss realises he needs a more natural fit to fill the role and sees predatory finisher Demba Ba as the ideal man for the job, not least because previous top target Huntelaar has opted to sign a new Schalke contract in recent days.
