Daniel Sturridge has been given permission by Chelsea to undergo a medical on Merseyside after Liverpool resolved the cash wrangle that was threatening to scupper his 12million-plus move to Anfield.

Though the transfer window does not open for another week, Sturridge has been allowed to put the finishing touches to his move after travelling to Liverpool for a medical today.

Although Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez does not believe the deal has yet gone through, it is only a matter of time.

'I cannot confirm but I think so (it will go through),' he said. 'There is still no news if we know more I'll let you know.'

The deal was in danger of collapsing after Liverpool took exception to agents' demands over sell-on fees and threatened to pull out.

But agreement has been reached over the terms of the 23-year old frontrunner's departure from Stamford Bridge, and he will now give manager Brendan Rodgers much-needed extra options up front after accepting a three-and-a-half year contract.

Sportsmail first revealed at the end of August that Liverpool wanted Sturridge to reinforce their strike force and would attempt to lure him away from Chelsea in the New Year.

Absolute waste of money.......Demba Ba for 7.5 million or Huntelaar.........either will be more of a team player and goalscorer than the greedy selfish and vastly over-rated Sturridge

He was a promising player a few years ago and know he's signing for Liverpool, shame

@ The Terminator, Earth, 23/12/2012 13:29 always makes me laugh when you Northerner's bang on about how much more successful you are than the London clubs, How many teams in Liverpool? how many teams in Manchester? there are currently 6 London teams in the prem, and many more from surrounding counties and in the lower leagues. No other city in the world has this many football teams. If London was the same with one or two teams they would more than likely be the two biggest teams in the world.

I Chelsea reject then, what does that make Torres??

Good buy for Liverpool, get a couple of seasons out of him then sell him back to Chelsea for £50 million.

Interesting to hear what Ray Wilkins had to say about Sturridge,

Well done Liverpool. Great signing and he'll haunt Chelsea for years to come.

Liverpool could do a lot worse than Sturridge (Borini). I am impressed that they have moved really quickly. Not bad for a January signing.

Welcome to Anfield Daniel you were never given a chance at Chelsea lets hope you get a good run in the team and show your class

Good luck with him Liverpool. Gifted player, but he'll frustrate the hell out of you with his inability to pass to a team mate and his persistent bottling out of challenges.
