Arsenal have re-opened negotiations with Liverpool over Luis Suarez.
Sportsmail revealed on Monday how the Gunners would make a 35m offer for the Uruguay forward this week.
And having opened discussions with the Merseysiders earlier this month, talks have recommenced, despite Liverpool's apparent reluctance to sell.
Emirates bound? Luis Suarez would be a significant signing for Arsenal
Arsenal believe they have a realistic chance of signing Suarez this summer, but 35million is unlikely to be enough to tempt Liverpool.
Upon announcing his desire to quit Liverpool, Suarez insisted he wanted to leave England. But Arsenal have been assured that Suarez would consider a move to the Emirates Stadium, despite his earlier claims.
And Arsenal vice-captain Mikel Arteta insists 'it is about time' his club looked to splash the cash.
Speaking as the Gunners arrived in Vietnam for the second leg of their Far East tour on Monday, Arteta said: 'The club have said they are going to be very ambitious in the market and have got the financial resources to get big players. I think it's about time. When you compare us to other top English clubs and the money they have paid, we are very far apart.
Optimistic: Mikel Arteta hopes Arsenal are about to strengthen their squad
'The value of this club is the class and what it means is very difficult to match. Now, financially, they are very strong so maybe we will be more aggressive in the transfer market. Big signings create a good atmosphere and we need to do something because other teams are doing it and I think we will.'
Meanwhile, Arteta has backed the club's attempts to persuade manager Arsene Wenger to pen a new contract.
Sportsmail revealed on Saturday how the Frenchman had opened talks over extending his existing deal, which expires next summer.
And the Spaniard said: 'He is someone who has brought stability to this club. He has changed the way this club works.
New contract? Arteta wants manager Arsene Wenger to stay
'I don't know what's going to happen, that's a decision between him and the directors but the players are really happy with him and want to succeed with him.
'When you sign for Arsenal, you are absolutely signing for the manager as well. Everyone knows what a great manager he has been. He gives you a positive to make the decision to join the club.
'I don't think it will be any different for the new players who are arriving because he has got a big reputation and they want to try his philosophy. Any player will always improve under him.'
I give up on you DM
