The extraordinary design was inked on by £250-an-hour tattooist Nikko Hurtado , who described Cheryl as "tough as nails" after he took 15 hours to complete the work over a period of several months.
But Twitter users reckoned the 30-year-old's inking, from her lower back to her thighs, scraped the bottom of the barrel.
Gary sniffed: "Probably the most hideous tattoo ever on chavy Cheryl Cole." And Dai Lama said: "You can't polish a turd but you can tattoo a huge, vulgar bunch of roses on the back of it."
Meg added: "Cheryl coles new tattoo is minging."
But Cheryl hit back: "People are entitled to their own opinion. Personally I've never really concerned myself with other people's body parts!"
