Liverpool's Jordan Henderson was shocked to be told he could leave Anfield - Telegraph.co.uk

"I don't really listen to what people say about the [Dalglish] signings, I just focus on myself and the team, the here and now, and what I need to do," said Henderson.

"It's nice to come away and hopefully get an opportunity to play, so I have to make sure I do it right and perform the best I can. Hopefully then I will get into the team in the Premier League. It's been different from last season but I still feel I have learnt a lot.

"The manager has helped me a lot with my game. There are certain bits I need to improve on, which I think I've done, and when I have played I think I've done well. You can see I am learning every time.

"I just have to continue to work hard and hopefully get into the team sooner rather than later. Every time I get an opportunity I have to try and take it, just give 100 per cent every day and keep fighting.

"I have spoken to the manager on numerous occasions and he has been pleased with my progress. Like I say, I have to believe in my ability that I can get in. Obviously you have to look to the future but I think I am ready to take my chance."

Rodgers continues to offer encouragement to players such as Henderson and Stewart Downing, but has refused to offer any guarantees about their long-term future.

"Henderson has a wonderful attitude to the game, he has wonderful physical attributes and I think he can get goals. His appetite for the game is very good," said Rodgers.

Full-back Glen Johnson has returned to training and is likely to face Chelsea on Sunday.

In the absence of 10 first-team regulars, Rodgers will turn to youth tonight. Rodgers has promoted rookie striker Adam Morgan in the absence of Luis Suárez who, as expected, remained on Merseyside with captain Steven Gerrard. Downing will start, but Joe Cole is sweating on a place even in a second-string XI.

Liverpool (probable, 4-3-3): Jones; Flanagan, Carragher, Coates, Robinson; Henderson, Shelvey, Suso; Assaidi, Downing, Morgan.
