Liverpool FC boss Brendan Rodgers expects tough return at Swansea City - WalesOnline

BRENDAN RODGERS expects no favours when he returns to the Liberty Stadium but believes his Liverpool side can get a win on his old stomping ground.

Swansea are unbeaten in their last three fixtures against Liverpool, with wins in their last two meetings, but host a Reds side in good form under former boss Rodgers at the Liberty tomorrow.

The Swans enjoyed an excellent home record during Rodgers' two-year spell in charge and the Northern Irishman says he is well aware of the task facing his side.

"It's a really difficult place to go and get a result," said Rodgers.

"At the end of last season we beat Liverpool there and we beat a number of the so-called big teams at home last season.

"The Liberty Stadium is a difficult place to go, but thankfully we are going into it with a really strong mindset – that momentum is coming together.

"We are looking to continue that run of seven unbeaten in the league.

"We had a terrific result against Wigan. It was a good performance against a side who have gone away to Tottenham and won.

"We restricted them to very few opportunities, scored three goals ourselves and could have had more. We're going into the game with big confidence."

Rodgers is not the only one making his Liberty return tomorrow, with £15m signing Joe Allen going back to Swansea for the first time since moving to Anfield in August.

Allen was with Swansea from the age of nine before following Rodgers to Liverpool this summer.

"I think Joe Allen will get a fantastic reception," added Rodgers. "He was a wonderful servant to the club and was very happy there.

"The opportunity to come to a club like Liverpool doesn't happen many times in your career and he took that opportunity to come and play for a manager who knows his game inside out."

Rodgers reiterated his statement that he was in no rush to leave Swansea after two highly successful years at the club during which time he won promotion to the Premier League before defying the bookmakers' odds to finish 11th in the top flight.

The 39-year-old added: "It was a fantastic period and we created history when we were there.

"In our first season, the players, supporters and the city really came together as one and we got promoted.

"I loved every minute and my family loved it there as well. I was in no hurry to leave but I got the chance to come to a club of this status.

"There are very few times in your lifetime when you will get asked to come to a club like Liverpool. When that comes you have to take that opportunity."
