Ali Ahamada
The clamour for Arsenal to sign a new first-choice goalkeeper is understandable, but with the club obviously reluctant to fork out the sort of wages commanded by Julio Cesar or Pepe Reina, the only option is to go for a man between the sticks who is still on the way up.
Arguably, they already have that man in cocksure enemy of the dyslexic, Wojciech Szczesny, but doubts over his long-term suitability mean looking elsewhere.
The highest-rated young goalkeeper on the continent that would be vaguely achievable for Arsenal is Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, but Borussia Moenchengladbach are well aware of the interest in him from Barcelona as Victor Valdes' replacement next summer.
They'll have to look elsewhere, and French Under-21 international Ali Ahamada could well be the perfect fit.
Young, improving and with plenty of first-team football under his belt at Toulouse, Ahamada is a keeper with lightning reflexes who also has a handy knack of saving efforts from the spot - which is handy when you've got clumsy Germans patrolling the area in front of you.
Available for a shade under £10million, Ahamada should already be known to the Arsenal technical staff from their scouting trips to watch Etienne Capoue.
What will probably happen: A deadline day loan for Julio Cesar.
Toby Alderweireld
A defensive injury crisis has made it more important than ever that Arsenal delve into the transfer market to strengthen their back four.
An in-vogue combination of being both Belgian AND from the Ajax academy, Toby Alderweireld could very easily replicate the success of Thomas Vermaelen and Jan Vertonghen in the Premier League.
One of the more technically sound defenders, Alderweireld's comfortable presence in possession also makes him a backup option at right-back and, at a push, in a defensive midfield role.
But centre-half is his more natural position and having him alongside Laurent Koscielny would lend far more security to that backline than anything involving Per Mertesacker and if Ivan Gazidis was willing to dust off his chequebook for the 24-year-old centre-back then he'd be getting one hell of a player.
What will probably happen: They come up with the dosh for Ashley Williams.
Oliver Sorg
The Freiburg full-back has attracted interest from the Bundesliga's top clubs, but as of yet he's not left the Breisgau club and could still be a bargain signing before the deadline.
Having curiously being ranked number 35 in a Bloomberg list of Europe's top 50 footballers, the youngster then enjoyed an impressive European Under-21 Championship this summer despite Germany's early exit.
Comfortable on the ball and a brilliant reader of the game, Sorg's abilities will be well-known to Arsenal's scouting staff who have repeatedly watched his young teammate Matthias Ginter, so nabbing the pair before they are snaffled by the Bundesliga big two may well pay dividends years down the line (and we all know how much the Arsenal board like to focus on dividends and the like).
What will probably happen: Ginter arrives, Sorg signs for Dortmund next summer.
Fernando
The Arsenal midfield has been lacking in steel ever since Alex Song took the undoubtedly easy but inevitably regrettable decision to move to the Camp Nou.
Finding an understated battler who will regain possession and redistribute it to Arsenal's glut of talented creators should be a priority and Porto's Fernando fits the bill perfectly.
Not only does the Brazilian check every box on the wishlist when you're looking for a defensive midfielder, but with one year remaining on his contract, he would provide a great value buy for Arsene Wenger's £180million thrift shop.
It's either that, or watch him go to a Champions League rival and excel elsewhere.
What will probably happen: Arsenal neglect to sign a combative midfielder and instead buy someone with the same qualities as many of their current players.
Arda Turan
A tidy attacking midfielder isn't particularly Arsenal's priority, granted, but improving the overall quality of their squad is, and the signing of Arda Turan would undoubtedly do that.
The Turkish international is a brilliant technical talent and can operate both wide and centrally, but he also - most importantly - is available AND affordable this summer.
Agent Ahmet Bulut readily admits that Turan could arrive in England before the transfer window shuts, and Arsenal would be foolish to let him go to a rival:
"A transfer to the Premier League for Arda is probable this summer," Bulut said.
"In England is where there is more interest in him, and they know Atletico's position well. The Madrid club are rejecting all offers for him, but if his clause is paid there is nothing they can do. There have been contacts."
What will probably happen: Liverpool miss out on Willian and nab Turan instead.
Luciano Vietto
There's little that gets the fans as excited as someone completely unknown.
With the Gunners' faithful desperately needing an injection of anything other than pure misery and frustration, picking up a ludicrously talented rookie like Luciano Vietto could be just the ticket to get some of the Emirates crowd back on side.
A livewire forward, the 19-year-old netted a hat-trick on his first-team debut against San Martín de San Juan last year and looks every bit the future Argentina number 9, even with some fairly considerable talent ahead of him in the pecking order for now.
Sparky and exciting when running with the ball, Vietto would be the sort of player to get people out of their seat, and rather than letting Porto or Benfica buy him and triple their money inside two years, Arsene Wenger should just skip out the middle man.
What will probably happen: Wenger signs Lacina Traore on loan from Anzhi, Vietto moves to Napoli in January.
