iBet: Liverpool may struggle to beat Zenit in Russia - The Independent (blog)

Zenit St Petersberg v Liverpool, kick off 5pm

Lay Liverpool at 2.65/1
Back Spurs at 5/6

Daniel Sturridge has really hit the ground running at Liverpool and his inclusion in the team has given Luis Suarez a slightly wider forward role that if anything has seen the Uruguay striker play even better. The importance of Sturridge to the team was perhaps illustrated on Monday. Since he signed at the start of January, The Reds had scored 15 goals in all competitions, with the two strikers grabbing four apiece. He was injured for the visit of West Brom, and it was back to the inconsistent side that had failed to win any of their first six games at Anfield this season and that has lost at home to Aston Villa, Swansea and Udinese. Brendan Rogers is certainly making progress, but Sturridge is not available for the latter stages of the Europa Cup and their record does not read too well. Liverpool have won only two of their last 11 European matches away from home, while Zenit have lost only one of their last 19 home matches in Europe. Liverpool could win of course, but with all the above taken into consideration, they should be longer odds than the available 21/20 and I think the value bet is to lay them with Betfair.

Only Manchester United have better recent Premier League form than Spurs and in Gareth Bale they have a world class player at the top of his game. Manager Andre Villas-Boas should field a strong side against a Lyon side in dodgy domestic form, and if he does the price of just short of even money for a home win looks good value. Oddschecker tell me that Coral are taking a position against Bale scoring the first goal with a stand-out 6/1. He's 9/5 (BetVictor) to score at any time and 33/1 to notch a hat trick.
