Do you love Twitter enough to pay tribute to it with your baby's name?
Well that's just what proud new parents the Jamesons have reportedly done. The pair announced the arrival of their baby daughter 'Hashtag' on social networking site Facebook, despite their clear nod to the other social media giant Twitter.
A picture of the baby girl was uploaded to Facebook with the caption: "Hashtag Jameson was born at 10oclock last night. She weys (sic) 8pounds and I luv (sic) her so much!!!!"
Friends, who also appear to have a shaky grasp of grammar, commented under the image, including one who said: "Aww babes you finally had youre Tweetybird xxx."
But is the whole thing a massive joke? Or even a clever viral campaign or advertising ploy for a certain brand of whiskey (note the surname)? Twitter was predictably excitable about the news, starting several hashtags for Hashtag - #Foolishparents, #YourParentsHateYou and #StupidestNameEver to name a few.
But it's not the first time social media has been honoured in this way. Last year, a Facebook-obsessed Egyptian family named their baby girl 'Like'.
And we've heard unusual names are going to be big in 2013, with inspiration coming from the Hunger Games, the Hobbit and, er, Scandinavia. But is Hashtag taking things too far? We can't help but wonder how the Jamesons will explain their choice in twenty years when Twitter and possibly even hashtags have been overtaken by the next internet craze
Silly or cute? Tell us on... Twitter!
