Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshire poised to sign new deal - Telegraph.co.uk

Arsenal's second-largest shareholder, Alisher Usmanov, is pushing for change in the club's boardroom. However, both the Moscow-based billionaire and the board remain fully behind Wenger, who has 18 months left on his contract.

There are hopes that Wenger might spend heavily in the January transfer window to boost his squad. A experienced goalkeeper and a striker are priorities although no deal is close.

Should Wenger eventually step down, then Carlo Ancelotti is understood to be interested in succeeding him. The Paris St-Germain coach has been also under pressure himself at his club, though that has alleviated in recent weeks with improved results.

Ancelotti is a huge admirer of Arsenal. After being sacked by Chelsea in May 2011, he frequently watched Wenger's side the following season before he joined PSG and would like eventually to move back to London.
