Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers not worried by Mansfield pitch - Telegraph.co.uk

"The depth of our squad is nowhere near in order to compete on all fronts. But we're Liverpool and you have to go out there and give your all and that's what we aim to do. We've had one transfer window and that was where we had to lose a number of players in the summer."

The £3 million pay-off given to Joe Cole, who has joined West Ham on an 18-month contract, has also limited Rodgers' options but the manager said: "That was a part of why this year was going to be difficult. But that is out of my control and is something that had to be done for the future of the club. So you have to move on."

Rodgers is planning further talks with Jamie Carragher, 34, who could make a rare start on Sunday, with the intention of persuading the veteran defender to play on for another year.

Sixteen years after making his Liverpool debut, Carragher is now deemed to be backup for first-choice centre-back pairing Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger.
