This year's Liverpool Triathlon has been cancelled.
It was due to take place in July but organisers of the event said it would cost too much to put it on.
The event started in 2009 and more than 1,000 athletes took part in the Liverpool Triathlon last year.
However, Liverpool will host the British Triathlon Championships in July, which includes a qualifier for this year's World Championships in London.
Organisers of the Liverpool Triathlon said in a statement on their website: "Due to a number of factors affecting the viability of the event, we have had to take the difficult decision not to run the Liverpool Triathlon in 2013.
"We would like to thank all the athletes and supporters who have made Liverpool a great event since 2009.
"We hope that those who have found the sport of triathlon through the Liverpool event will continue to race in the future."
The British Triathlon Championships in Liverpool is provisionally scheduled for 12-13 July.
