Heart stopper: Ex-Liverpool keeper Doni reveals major health scare led to ... - Mirror.co.uk

Doni has finally shed some light on the mysterious end to his Liverpool career.

The Brazilian joined the Reds in July 2011 but played only a handful of games for the club before leaving for Botafogo on transfer deadline day.

The last of Doni's four appearances came in May and he failed to even make the squad since.

Now the goalkeeper has revealed the shocking reason behind his disappearing act, telling an Italian website:

"I almost... I almost ended up on the other side. I had a heart attack for about 25 seconds.

"I've been to one of the best doctors in Europe who looked at me carefully. He's asked me to stop for a few months.

"Now I have to stay put until April, then I can return to the field, I want to play in the 2014 Paulista championship."

Doni further clarified his comments to the Brazilian media, telling Globo: "I always had an arrhythmia and during some tests in Liverpool suffered a cardiac arrest.

"I carried out checks across Europe and I had to extend my period of absence from the field."
