MANCHESTER UNITED and Arsenal are battling to capture PSV Eindhoven's £17million-rated midfielder Kevin Strootman.
The 22-year-old Holland international has emerged as one of the most exciting young prospects in Dutch football over the past two seasons.
He has made no secret of his desire to play at the highest level.
And he could get his wish next month, with a host of top clubs on alert as the January transfer window approaches. AC Milan, Liverpool and Tottenham are also tracking Strootman, but United and Arsenal are leading the chase.
United scout Martin Ferguson and Arsenal's talent spotter Steve Rowley have both given rave reviews on the man being hailed in the Dutch Press as the "new Mark van Bommel".
A top PSV source revealed: "It looks certain that he will leave in January. The only question is where?
"It looks like Manchester United or Arsenal they are both very keen."
