Arsenal defender Jenkinson trains with England squad - Goal.com

Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson trained with the England squad on Sunday ahead of their World Cup qualifier in Poland on Tuesday.

The ex-Charlton man has enjoyed a stellar start to the season at the Emirates, deputising for the injured Bacary Sagna, and was in contention for a place in Roy Hodgson's initial selection for his side's qualifiers against Poland and San Marino.

However, with England using Arsenal's London Colney training base before flying out to Warsaw on Monday, Hodgson used the opportunity to grant Jenkinson, who is also eligible to play for Finland, his first taste of the senior international scene.

However, the full-back will not be a member of the travelling party to face the Euro 2012 co-hosts and speaking to reporters on Thursday, Hodgson stressed that he would not rush Jenkinson's development.

"After speaking to Arsene [Wenger] I am also conscious that his rise has been meteoric," said the Three Lions' coach.

"He's only 20 and it's nice to temper things a little bit, but he wouldn't be out of place in the squad. Kieran Gibbs, like Jenkinson, has started very well for Arsenal.

"On this occasion, we decided to go with [Gibbs] and keep Jenkinson up our sleeves but he'll be very much in our thoughts when it comes to the next friendly match."
